Is it the Sunni ? Is it the Shia? Is it both? If both don't we have to kill them all?

Do you even know the divisions of Islam and the Muslim's aggression towards each?
it is reminiscent of the protestant/catholic period of discord..

The Middle East is not likely to devolve into a Caliphate. As we grow more and more energy independent, it is more likely they will return to the tribal system of the late 19th/early 20th century. Maybe even something resembling the mess in Somalia.

It won't be pretty.

A Caliphate would be far preferable over that.

In any case I am thrilled that the Muslim situation has no impact on our domestic politics...who knew?

A Worldwide Caliphate refers to the actions by "Islamic extremists" as part of an effort to overthrow all political systems in favor of a single theocratic one-world government.[1][2] The Daily Times reported that at a rally held in Islamabad the militant organization Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan called for the formation of a Worldwide Caliphate, which was to begin in Pakistan.[3][relevant? ]

Hizb ut-Tahrir believes that all Muslims should unite in a Caliphate that will "challenge, and ultimately conquer, the West."[4] While "extremists commit atrocities" in pursuit of this unlikely goal, it lacks appeal among a wider Islamic audience.[5] Brigitte Gabriel argues that the goal of a worldwide Caliphate is central to the enterprise of radical Islam.[6]
