At a very tender age, my first hospital job was in administration at a small country hospital in the north Texas Pandhandle. My desk butted up again the desk of the woman trained and assigned to manage Medicare claims when that act went into effect. I was officially the hospital credit manager but was also trained as backup to her as necessary or when she was on vacation and such.I am wondering why the Dems are fighting so hard to keep massive waste, fraud, and abuse in our Federal Government. It seems mind boggling to me. The polling indicates the American public is solidly behind Trump in this area, so it is clearly a political loser for the Dems. So why? What sane person would want to keep the fraud going. For example, I worked for years in healthcare and the conservative estimate for decades is Medicare and Medicaid has at minimum 25% fraud. That is hundreds of billions of dollars a year. And again, this is about waste, fraud, and abuse, not Trump or Musk, so let's stay on topic.
Any theories would be helpful.
rightwinger and Mac1958 I would love your take on this.
Yup, and we apparently have NO POWER to stop this abuse.Waste, fraud and abuse must be attacked in terms of the highest amounts first. That is what DOGE is doing. In the purest sense, yes Kash Patel's flight was entertainment I assume and therefore waste. That is also something that every single CongressPerson has done at one time or another.

From Day 1 when Medicare went into effect--this was a small, ultra conservative area where you would expect exemplary ethics and morals to be demonstrated--we observed the fraud that was almost instantaneous. Doctors would wander down the halls of the hospital, glance into a patients room to see that he/she was asleep, and write down a 'examination' that was then billed to the government. Nurses quietly confided that tests and procedures were being ordered that never would have been the case before Medicare.
And some of the rules and regulations make no sense. Medicare refused an inexpensive osteoporosis medication for my aunt because she still had her gallbladder. We asked the doctor what the med had to do with the gallbladder and he said nothing. It was just a Medicare rule. She was forced to get a much more expensive osteoporosis medicine that involved a several hundred dollar copay every time she got a shot.
What affect the pharmaceutical industry and other supplier lobbies have on the process is anybody's guess.
But because DOGE is looking at cleaning up the process/program, Trump and Musk et al are being accused of attacking/damaging Medicare and Medicaid.
It is incomprehensible how TDS can be so strong that it throws a persons entire concept of right and wrong, fair play, good/evil right out the window.
These Trump ass suckers think they’re entitled to be treated like royaltyI'm curious if you consider this Patel Travel, waste, fraud and abuse?

Sadly… that’s not even close to the situation hereTariffs are a valuable and often-used device that mitigates risk for domestic industries, evens out trade imbalances, and fosters positive working relationships between countries.
Unfortunately, when in the hands of an ignorant buffoon who uses them instead to intimidate, threaten and punish, they can actually end up turning the global financial system on its fucking head, and destroy critical relationships that we have been building for over 40 years in one fell swoop -- motivating our former friends and trading partners to work on establishing new relationships that don't include America. As we have seen.
So yeah, tariffs can be very helpful and effective. If administered by an intelligent, stable adult.

Like you said, we had decades to do it the quiet way and nothing got done. In fact, it got worse. Now we have to do it the loud way.I can't think of anyone who isn't against waste, fraud and abuse.
We had the opportunity to establish a standardized auditing system run by people who knew and understood the specific financial workings of a given department, conduct the audits, analyze the data, make a plan to cut waste, fraud and abuse, implement, and monitor. The Dems sure didn't do it.
Plan it, analyze it, run with it. Like any normal, smart business would do. Pretty much everywhere.
Instead, we went full caveman, as Trump likes to do (well, that's all he CAN do). And we had a guy running around a fucking stage waving a fucking chainsaw after firing people, because America is now essentially pro wrestling.
What a terribly wasted opportunity. I'd guess there's a shitload of waste, fraud and abuse that we could discover and address, if we only did it right, carefully, professionally, without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
