My guess is 50 years ago they probably thought America would evolve into a better place and instead the middle class is struggling more than ever under a mountain of debt and is slowly dying. If you think the government can be changed, just look at Trump. He wants to change the government and look at the resistance he has endured, including two assassination attempts. Bernie Sanders would have gotten the same treatment. As George Carlin once said, DC is a club and we're not in it.

But finding a candidate that says what I want to hear is not difficult, it's finding a candidate that will actually DO what I want that is extremely difficult.
