My favorites include John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Keith Moon of The Who, Neil Peart of Rush, Bill Bruford of Yes and King Crimson and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones.

Billy Wheeler. He never played with anything but a garage band. No gold records, and no mention in any music magazine. He did take the time to teach me stuff I might have never figured out on my own. When he couldn't make it to a gig with his little band, he set me up to fill in for him. In a heads up contest with the famous drummers, he wouldn't stand a chance, but he had more impact on my enjoyment of drumming and music in general than all the drummers in all the famous bands ever. Billy was the best.

Ringo ! I read a article about how he was the best drummer ever. The guy said he was not the fastest, played long solos, etc...but he made the Beatles sound complete.

There is only the best. Gene Krupa.

What did Buddy Rich think of Gene Krupa?

Buddy Rich : Gene Krupa was the beginning and the 'end' of all drummers. He's a great genius - a truly great genius of the drums. Gene discovered things that could be done with the drums that hadn't been done before, ever.

Gene Krupa jams

That was great but he is no Ringo !

People need to understand one thing about Ringo. Back in their touring days before all the technology we have now they could not hear themselves most of the time. McCartney said they relied on Ringo’s drumming to keep them together. He was exactly the drummer they needed and I will die on that hill.

BTW: That clip shows how much great music I have missed...thank God for Dylan and the Beatles !

Joe "Curly" Smyth from the Sawyer Brown band is my most favorite. :) :) :)

God bless you and him and the other band members always!!!

Holly

P.S. He has been with the band since day one in the early 80s. :) :) :)
