White Teacher Under Fire For Singing 'Monkey' Song On Black Boy's Birthday

White Christmas is a variation of happy birthday? It uses words like "you live in a zoo, you look like a monkey and you smell like one too"?

Surely I cannot be the only right leaning person who thinks singing those words to a black child..might be a bit insensitive...
A black teacher singing it to a white kid is conspicuous. That’s what you asked for. And Christmas is a birthday celebration.

This falls under the heading of frivolous lawsuits and should be kicked out of court.

I didn't see anything about a lawsuit but yeah it's completely ridiculous to me. 🙄

Oh I didn't get that connection. That's awesome!! 😍

That’s not trolling. It’s called perspective.

It's still funny though. 🤣

If white Christmas included words like i mentioned, and a black teacher sang a version of it to a white kid, it would be just as bad.

But this is just wrong. I can't believe it didnt click in her mind before she started that, even if it was totally meaningless, it wasnt going to look good.

Maybe she was just completely naive. It’s possible. She might live in an extremely white democrat world. White democrats are very racially isolated people.

This is a rarity but I actually agree with Unkotare, I think that it's more racist associating the song with being about a black kid when it never was to begin with.

Maybe...maybe not. She should have known better, unless she's just complety oblivious to the social climate we live in

And if it was a black teacher singing that to a black student in a racially mixed classroom…?

They would have to sing the song in Spanish and the black kid wouldn't even know what was being said anyways. The racially mixed kids would tell their parents that they would have to leave the country. If they don't have papers bring it on!! 😁

A white teacher in Florida is under fire after she sang a "monkey" birthday song to a six-year-old Black boy at school.

In a video shared on TikTok, the boy's classmates and teacher first sang the traditional "Happy Birthday" song to celebrate the occasion. The teacher then delivered what the boy's mother believes was a racially charged version of the birthday song.

"Happy birthday to you. You live in the zoo. You look like a monkey, and you smell like one too," the teacher recited, leaving several children visibly uncomfortable and confused.

The mother of the boy, identified as six-year-old Legend, called the teacher's song a racial insult.

“I’m sharing this so people understand what my son experienced in his classroom. A birthday should be celebrated with kindness, not racial jokes from an adult in a position of authority," the mother said.

Let's see how many of the right wingers make excuses for this.

What a disgrace.

Okay I watch video and teacher asks kid if he wants the funny birthday song, and he answers yes.
I'll note that only the teacher sings the funny song and not the whole class. The kid doesn't seem upset about the song, it's sad his mom is teaching him to be a victim.

My ex called her second kid "little monkey" all the time. It was cute.

She might be. That’s my point.
I referred to a black player as boy in my first year of coaching. A couple of other black players told me I couldn’t say that. A few years later, I was coaching an all-black team with black coaches. The black coaches incessantly referred to the players as boy.

Probably because he didn't know what the damn song was, seems like the only time someone is a victim is when a black person is pointing out the racism of someone white.

Nobody is associating it as its meaning being about black people. I know the song, it was around when I was a child, and its just a normally harmless thing, but singing those words, specifically to a black child, is just wrong. What makes it even worse is, the whole class had just sung the happy birthday song, and for some reason, the teacher felt that she should sing another song, specifically that version to a black child. Maybe im in crazy town, but, that seems inappropriate. Even if she was being completely well meaning, she should have k known you dont do that kind of thing these days. It will just bring trouble.

Sounds more like people, once again, looking for a problem more than there is actually any problem.
