You would need to review American placement in a variety of socioeconomic indicators to understand what is happening globally.This is the primary reason the US lags behind largely homogeneous wealthy countries in Europe and Asia.
There is no such "lag" occurring.
Or maybe just look at the "indicator" that the US is still the world's largest, most influential, and important economy. You chose your words carelessly.
