You may not be aware of this, but slavery ended 162 years ago in America. Jim Crow has been legally outlawed for 60 years. America overcame those sins. That is our History.

Slavery didn't end in the United States until 1942, when Congress finally got around to outlawing Debt Peonage.

You see, they found a workaround for the 13th Amendment in Debt Peonage.

Arrest someone - usually black - for a petty crime, such as vagrancy or walking along the railroad tracks (yes, these were actual criminal offenses!!!)

Charge them for the cost of their "incarceration". Then sell their debt off to a farm or factory where they had to work off what they owed. But, surprise, they could be charged for room and board and food, so they never got out of debt.
