Which of the list is favorite 80s sci fi action movie and why ??

T2 is a ballbuster. Great from the moment it starts right through to the end. I remember first going to see it. My girlfriend and I walked out of the theater and were hit with a blast of heat. It was a super hot summer day and the AC in the theater was cranked. T2 defined so many new directions for films today including CGI. Maybe I've seen it too many times but Dune and Blade Runner remain as my slight favorites. Everything and everyone in Blade Runner just fell perfectly into place.


The great thing about Predator is that it didn't need CGI. I'm actually getting burned out on CGI--- IMO, it should be used judiciously or not at all for maximum effectiveness, so instead, Hollywood is making whole movies based on CGI. Too much CGI gets tiring to watch. Maybe better for kids and teens yelling GEE WHIZ with their 3-D glasses on.

I think what hurts T2 is that it was a little more of a mainstream movie than Dune and Blade Runner. Dune was based on the obscure book which only hardcore sci-fi fans read, in fact, it started as a 4 hour movie they had trouble cutting down to 2.5 hours, and Blade Runner was a niche market film, whereas T2 was a blockbuster sequel to a very popular film with huge budget and huge stars in it. Nevertheless, T2 remains as one of the best, biggest sci-fi blockbusters of all time.

And sure, Aliens was great. Especially the slimy character that was aboard (Paul Reiser?) looking to trap the passengers in order to get the aliens back for his employer to exploit. But Alien 1 was super too, as was Alien 4 pretty good too. But beyond that, after Sigorney left, I had much less interest in the future offerings, including the --- vs. Predator movies.

One movie that escapes everyone's radar and most people have never even heard of it much less seen it is a rather obscure cult sci-fi film because it had no big actors, no big budget, no special marketing, no huge special effects (though the special effects are pretty good) and a good story.

It is called: 'The Keep.'

If you haven't seen it, all I will say is to look it up and check it out. I came across that movie many years ago on cable late one night and immediately said: "Whoa, what is this?!" Frankly, I cannot believe more people aren't enamored to that movie.

Aliens and Blade Runner are my favorites from the 1980's.

The original Thing was better. The 80's movies seemed to be big on splatter and low on plot.

oh wow that's deep

terminator had awesome action
predator was creepy, spooky with good action
aliens was creepy with good action and suspense
empire strikes back had great action, a twist where the good guys starting getting beat
blade runner was deep, fake humans and a hunter who's job was to terminate them, classic
robocop, pure mayhem, cop goes into a suit and kinda goes apeshit with power, bad guys don't get justice just dead

kinda sums it up good?
