The RAF or the Baader Mienhof gang as they were known were the post war German generation and were sickened by the reality that nothing had really changed in the mentality of the German elite and rulers, their parents generation were Nazis in some cases literally,the father of Meinhof was a Nazi party member and had belonged to another fascist mob before that,former Nazis were still judges and police chiefs many became high up in Nato, they were also disgusted by the US war against Vietnam and US bases hosting bombers to attack Vietnam. so they decided to act and do something about it whether you think it was right or wrong.
