Which of the 2 main US political parties do you favour?

I favour ….

  • Rep

  • Dem

  • both alike

  • None of them

  • I am neutral

Results are only viewable after voting.
Rather than argue over capitalism vs. socialism ideology, both of which don't even exist in this country, I prefer to deal in reality and practicality. The US Government is bought and paid for by those with all the money and is, in reality, a plutocracy masquerading as a capitalist democracy. Does anyone have a roadmap to change this to benevolent socialism? I think it would be impossible. What we have now, thanks to our plutocracy, is crony capitalism at its finest. If we want socialism, which will be run by the plutocrats, the best we can hope for is crony socialism, like in Venezuela. So, what do the people prefer, crony capitalism or crony socialism?

What barriers ?
Simply the winner takes all system is designed to have just two parties (or very few)... This is common knowledge in political science...

These videos might explain why:

This is the solution or variation off that is used around the world to stop this:

This is the barriers... Effectively running in a race you hurt the candidate that is closest to your own beliefs.. This is anti-democratic..

Dare I say it, there is a large part that want Social Democracy (Not Democratic Socialism)

Social Democracy has a few main pillars:
Corporations are there to serve society as a whole not only Shareholders profits. So they would consider all stakeholders like Customers, Shareholders, Employees, General Public... in their decisions..

A true commitment to democracy,
  • This would mean curbing lobbyists and powerful entities from having too much power in the system. This includes having proper liable laws.
  • A justice system which can quickly a cheaply enforce those laws fairly. Because you are the big guy doesn't mean you can beat the legal system against the small guy.
  • Products sold have to prove they are safe first before being sold, not being sold and they have to be proven to be unsafe. (This is a major difference between US and EU attitude).
  • Laws are there to protect Citizens, consumers rights rather than protecting Corporations... People come first, Profits don't justify everything.
  • Environmental law: When a Corporation pollutes, they are actually making profits for their shareholder at the cost of the community. That is fundamental, society has to make a choice about how they pay back to that community.
  • And yes, having a more open field of political opponents drives innovation in political debate.
There are many other issues but this is fundamental to Social Democracy and is why it is so popular in Europe, another word for it is Regulated Capitalism. The US has been using Regulated Capitalism for over a century.

Unregulated Capitalism is charging $1000 for a dose of insulin, because you can. Social Democracy says that we granted you a licence to sell insulin at a fair price, it cost you $10 to make that insulin, you may charge no more than $30.
Unregulated Capitalism, would take $800 in profit and then use $190 on Lobbyists in government, ad money with the media companies and lawyers to clog up the courts... This will get more expensive over time, more lobbyists money, media buyouts and lawyers. Eventually they will tell you they have to charge $1000 to keep this whole scheme going and they are just barely making a profit...

They will even have politicians telling you EU are robbing you because they aren't paying any where close to same as you and that America is paying the bill... Problem with that, Insulin was discovered over 100 years ago in Canada and was mean to be given without profit to the people that need it...

I understand and agree, and think almost any form of government could endow a decent quality of life, as long as the people in charge are not corrupt. Capitalism sucks if the government is corrupt, socialism sucks if the government is corrupt, and all forms in between suck if the government is corrupt. Unfortunately one of the most difficult things to do is convince a corrupt government to stop being corrupt. That is why I say it is useless to argue over ideology in a perfect world when we do not live in a perfect world. We live in a corrupt world with billions of ever increasingly corrupt people. When there is corruption, we should strive for the smallest, leanest government possible.

Rep or Dem?

in Germany i favour small parties
The pool is skewed because some right wing nuts who are more Trumper than Trump such as Nostra, Concerned American Marvin Martian etc. refrain from voting. And the cult STILL comes out ahead.
The goal is to hide the fact that this is basically a right wing message board with a few liberal guests.

Effectively only two...

When has a third party had over 5% of the Congress or Senate?

This is what EU parliament looks like:

Why are you defending the two party model? Do you not like people getting closer to what they want...
Because the voters are stupid and keep voting for them. Thats what I have been saying throughout this thread.

It doesn't surprise you because;
1) You haven't a brain.
2) You have no clue what you are talking about
3) You have no solution or workable alternative
4) It's only a "duopoly" to ignorant arses like you who never get involved nor work to fix what you think is wrong
5) I'm not a "statist". You might try this to see where YOU place, if you can be honest with yourself (I don't care to know where you place. Most who announce such are lying anyway.)

It's called freedom. Something you wouldn't understand

In truth all those different systems don't really exist in the first world... There is no pure Capitalist (i.e. no regulations, sell what you like) or Socialist society that there is no private enterprise...
But I totally agree with you about corrupt... Just goto and live in a third world country and you can see what corruption has done... Nothing works..
There are levels of corruption and people confused incompetence with corruption all the time ... Incompetence is lower from of corruption.

That is why I say having more choice and better way to make leaders answerable to the electorate is the start of getting things in check...
In Ireland the best anti corrupt device was the ECJ (European Court of Justice).. Above the Irish Supreme Cour, cases could be appealed to the ECJ... They consisted of external judges nationally, they weren't appointed by the Irish Government.
They read the law and ruled, a number of time individuals beat the government in the ECJ, Government usually gets a big fine and public humiliation of political figures... This changed the way courts worked, Judges don't like to be overruled..

The democrat party is America’s greatest enemy and threat right now. A result of policy. Republicans don’t destroy America as policy but many republicans are guilty through acquiescence to democrats. That makes repubs the only practical choice if you’re a pro-American.

The current politicians will not allow anyone to change the system, especially to one that takes power and money away from them and their benefactors. When an outsider, like Trump, somehow gets through the protections and talks about draining the swamp, they crucify him mercilessly to make it known what happens when you threaten their gravy train. If the system is ever allowed to be changed it will start to resemble the CCP more than anything else. Ever since China's meteoric rise, all countries are noting that one party with totalitarian control just works better than messy crony capitalist democracies. It is the future of governance.
