Nobody is saying they want to force that woman to speak English. But, people are under no obligation to be able to communicate with her in her language, either. So, when she comes up to my counter and gives me a 5 dollar bill for a 10-dollar item, and turns to walk out, I am calling the cops on her for robbery.


If people want to get official info from the government, then they should learn English. They most certainly should not demand government accommodate them by printing official documents in another language.

Immigrants always learn the language eventually.

Making English your official language does not mean you can force the woman behind you at the checkout line to speak English.

It means the Government will not publish official documents in other languages
