Those who level the such sharp criticisms in the wake of such disasters not only make the mistake of acting is if they would have done better if they had been in charge -- basing that conclusion on what they learned after the tragedy struck and on an assumption that no one would have been as diligent as they. Perhaps more importantly, these critics seem also to have undue faith in the ability of a society and of the human imagination to stop what in the final analysis may be unstoppable forces.
