The extreme weather events combine with local geology create hazards that cannot be attenuated by modern technology. We are seeing this in Sicily right now. Basically, there is nothing they can do to save this town, only when the pore pressure drops enough in the weak layers will the movement stop. And thousands of people will have lost their homes.
