After the US poured millions of dollars into upgrading the base, yeah, it is no wonder that Germany could come in and make an airport from it. But there is one slight problem of the runway back in our day. Both ends of the runway were elevated while the middle of it was about 10 feet lower. Helped get the hogs of the F-4 off the ground easier.
