CNN isn't guessing right now on the cause, but to have a whole grid like this drop that quickly is not a normal occurrence regardless of the cause.

Yeah but in the land of windmills it could also just be the wind dying down...BBC just reported that nothing has been ruled out

This doesn't seem like a grid failure due to low supply, which usually has a rolling quality or staged quality to it.

This seems like a bunch of safety relays popped off at once and they are having a bugger of a time figuring out why.

They are coming up with this reason way too quickly for me tastes.

Are they talking about sagging transmission lines striking trees? Because that has caused a few big outages in the US.
