From the beginning...What is the Israeli / Palastinian conflict all about?

1) Is it land? The Israeli's claim that that land was promised to them by God. The Palastinians claim they have been living there for ever.

2) Is it over religion? The Israeli's being Jewish and the Palastinians being Muslim.

3) Is it over Genocide? At first God commanded the Israelites to exterminate the Ancestors of the Palastinians, and now the Muslims want to exterminate the Israeli's.

4) Is it over something entirely different that no one knows about or understands?

By now it has to be a combination of everything. What I would like to know is, what was the original conflict over? Why do the Jews and Muslims hate each other so much?

As an American coming from a christian upbringing we were taught to support the Israeli's because those were God's chosen people. Muslims were evil because of the Iran hostage crisis, so the choice between Jewish and Muslim was taught pretty clearly. Pro Jew / Anti Muslim.

Later in life when looking for the reasons and understanding for why the Muslims act the way they do, leads to the history books. From the history books a very different picture takes form from what was originally taught in school. So we know what the media slant is, we know what our government slant is, and we know what our school slant is, but these are all biased opinions. Having been overseas during Desert Storm I had the rare privilage of talking to regular everyday Saudi muslims, and they are quite different from their American counterparts in their views and actions. It seams that there is a great deal of effort in painting the Muslims as violent sociopaths who worship an evil god. So why do they hate each other so much, and what started the dispute in the first place, these are the questions.

This conflict is sold to the people as a religious conflict. It is not. Before Israel, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews lived together in an amicable relationship that dated back centuries. All Palestinians be they Muslims, Christians, or Jews were opposed to the creation of a foreign state inside their country. Even today Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are opposed to having Israel in their country.

With Muslims, Christians, and Jews on the same side, how can this be a religious conflict?

The Jews do have the right to live in their holy land, however, they were not the first people to live in Palestine nor were they ever the only people there.

There is absolutely no historic precedence to have an exclusive Jewish state.
