What was your greatest fear as a kid?

Say when you were 10-12 years old?

I was asked that question and being a pretty fearless outdoor type of kid about all I could think of was when mom said "just wait till your father gets home" after I messed-up.

It was usually a hollow threat....But sometimes it wasn't. ;)

This stupid frog. It scared the shit out me when I was a kid...

Nah, I live not too far from the base and hear them all the time. Can even hear when soldiers do field training. It doesn't bother me anymore, or atleast not like it used too. There's been a few times a couple of Chinooks tried reroof my house. The new ones don't sound anything like the old ones did. Rattle your bones to your toes
Only time I hear aircraft is when there is a wild fire in the vicinity, then it is non stop as they dip water out of the lake.

I can relate, my 3rd grade teacher terrified us with the duck and cover under our desks---like that would help. LOL
It was all a way of giving Americans hope.
Had they been told the truth it would have changed how they looked at war.

The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency did store opium and morphine at the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox starting in 1955, along with gold, but specifics on the exact amount of morphine aren't widely publicized, focusing more on the strategic reserve aspect rather than exact weights, with some sources noting the opium reserve existed until the 1990s for military needs.

Nuclear war is the only reason they would store huge stockpiles of morphine in the vault instead of gold.

Seen that happen when we were on our way to go camping in North Central.

Then another time while we were camping in a narrow canyon in the middle of nowhere (hard core campers), there were 2 F-18's (?) or similar jets that flew thru there just over the tree tops. Nearly deafening. Then the after wind nearly took our tent with it. I think they were just out having a little fun, thinking the place would be deserted

I can remember watching Sesame Street and at one point the building that Gordon and Susan lived in caught on fire which is how I learned about the stop drop and roll thing, but after seeing that, I got scared about my home being on fire.

God bless you always!!!

As I learned about radiation as a kid, I thought the same thing and told my teacher that in front of the class (basically said that if we needed protection from the blast cloud we would all be irradiated and die slow painful deaths). 3rd grade girls cried at the idea and my principle spanked my butt for being so imprudent. He never asked me if I changed my mind (despite his ignorant statements) for which I was grateful, because he'd have been beating me all day.

When my parents got that call, they didn't really get after me. They were the ones who explained radiation to me, so they probably decided to not educate me anymore on certain matters.
Funny thing, I never knew a Russian afraid of a nuclear war. We were sure it couldn't and wouldn't happen.

There was a stupid horror story going around us kids where someone fell into a lethargic sleep and was buried alive. Had trouble going to a regular sleep at night for quite a while thinking it might happen to me.

1.3M for that 2x4 dump in LA are people insane?

as for the thread, I'd probably need to go with just not being liked in school, not having friends.

I played some sports but I was not active in after school stuff, not hated, not the most popular, worked for me I guess

I was not any label, nerd, jock, outcast etc........just kinda normal

Wow, insecure.
lol.......every kid in school does not want to be an outcast but you were special huh?

that's the dumbest thing you have said of late, every kid in school wants to have friends

apparently you were a weirdo and had none, that actually explains plenty

Had plenty, never worried about it. You might want to talk to a shrink.
sure you did.....yet you never worried about it.......I call liar

unlike you I actually took child psychology in college

no kid unless they are an introvert or damaged does not want to be social and have friends

This is basic 101 that you can't comprehend

I was born in 1947 and my parents divorced when I was 2 years old. My two greatest fears were:

1). Being abandoned

2). The atomic bomb
