What the US can learn from New Zealand political discourse

... We learned all about rejecting tyranny almost 250 years ago. ...

And since when you are a racist nation, which ignores Indians in all colors including black and catholic? And when did you define the races "democrats" and "republicans"? ... Oh - and when made you "money" and "guns" to your gods?

Yes, as other posters had the guts to say (I was too cowardly to be the first), New Zealand is a harmonious country because of its population profile.

I hope they can keep it.
You are punting a myth.

New Zealand with a population of 5 million? You gotta be kidding. Kentucky has about 5 million people. ...

Kentucky or New Zealand is the question? Sorry Kentucky - but that' not really a choice: New Zealand. Or do I miss some information about Kentucky?

And you should perhaps really slowly start to try to think about the style of discussion about politics in New Zealand and the style of discussions about politics in the USA.

There is nothing as corrosive and damaging to the American political discourse as the right wing alternative facts machine.

“When you look at the numbers, New Zealanders have essentially been satisfied with their government since 1999,” said Stephen Mills, the head of UMR, Labour’s polling firm. That period had spanned two Labour and two centre-right National prime ministers – including Ardern – all of whom had led fairly moderate governments.

“A huge reason that our politics is not so extremely polarised and so far out there is because we no longer have Murdoch-owned press in New Zealand, and it’s never taken a foothold,” said David Cormack, the co-founder of a public relations firm and a former head of policy and communications for the left-leaning Green party.

..you CANNOT compare NZ with the US--they are totally different ......

NZ barely has a population of 5 million people.

It's easier for groupthink to work there

Yea. There is nothing to be learned from a country that has a high opinion of its government, is free, and has a tone of discussion lacking the nutters. Guess what? You’re fucking wrong.

Why do you people always jump to such ludicrous conclusions.

I'm no fan of Trump and I didn't vote for him.

It is beyond stupid to compare a country of less than 5 million people to one of over 350 million people.

Maybe you want to brush up on basic sociology.

When did New Zealand become a world power?

The people of New Zealand are welcome everywhere - not so US-Americans.

yea until you need our money or troops....

You don't have any idea how mad and strange sound US-Americans in the eyes of other people of the world. You are a poor guy - otherwise you would not say such a total bullshit.

so what country are you from?....

Germany. And don't tell me now something about Hitler, except I don't know it and it is important to know it.

so why do you folks have American troops there?....im sure your country is capable of defending yourselves as well as the rest of Europe....

It must be nice to have one culture. In the US we dont have that luxury. We have every shitty third world culture muddying up the place.

First. Want to compare schooling? Second. That’s your response? What does the number of people have to do with the extreme right wing news cycle of disinformation?

NZ is a tiny little shitty island with little tyrants on it

YOu want us to learn from NZ? No

What a terrible time to bring this up.

This "discussion" is over for me. Leave Germany with all of your soldiers. Don't forget to take your nukes with you.

As an Aussie - American (I am more Aussie than American now) even I have to agree New Zealand has the most civilised political discourse I have ever witnessed.

I had the privilege to work with a Kiwi company for 8 years and I know few things about that great country.
Kiwis (not the fruit trump supporters it means people from Ne Zealand). Are one of the nicest people one can meet, they have been trying to do the right thing for a long time.
They have given many advantages to the indigenous people.
They incorporate the Maori language and traditions in almost everything.
They are most educated
They have universal health care
They have affordable access to education
They are very open to other cultures and so forth.
That's everything that the cons in the US are up against and refuse to do.
