Here's my opinion. No lawyers, no sob stories about his drug addiction. Speedy trial. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, do not make the lawyers rich. This to be followed by speedy execution, or if that's too harsh, send the bastard to Alaska and put him a labor camp for the rest of his life.

That presumes several things. It presumes, for example, that his guilt is already established. While it seems pretty clear, it has yet to be proved.

It also presumes that he isn’t entitled to a lawyer. But he is.

It also presumes that his acts were committed while he was in possession of a mind that wasn’t diseased (by drug abuse or by things like serious mental illness). In America, the criminal law in most cases requires two things before a person can be held liable. (1) actual bad acts (pretty boys here assuming he is the one who committed those acts): and, (2) the required mental state. The latter doesn’t seem obvious in this sad case.

So, if he did the acts, the question boils down to whether he had some kind of mental disease or defect that prevented him from appreciating the wrongfulness of his conduct. Maybe we all should let the process play out before jumping to any conclusions.

Somehow, an argument started over at some party Conan O'Brian was having and carried back to the Reiner household.
