What should be done to reduce mass shootings? (Poll)

Do you support any of the OP suggested ways to reduce mass shootings?

Because young white men do it more that any other ethnic group.
Is that a per capita number? Because I think you will find that blacks have the highest per capita rate of gun violence. By your logic you would ban blacks.

Let me explain.

I'll explain with Belfast South constituency from 2015. Yes, I know it's the UK, but it's a really great example of FPTP (and no, I've never been to Northern Ireland)

The SDLP won the seat. 24.5% of people voted for their candidate. Which means 75.5% of people DID NOT VOTE for the SDLP.

But they got to represent that constituency for two years.

If we zoom out the SDLP got 0.3% off the vote in the whole of the UK and got three seats. Or 0.5% of the seats.

UKIP, a MAGA style anti-EU party, got 12.6% of the vote, and they only got one seat. The Lib Dems, got 7.9% of the vote and 8 seats. The Tories got 50.8% of the seats but only 36.8% of the votes. What did the people want?

The people of Belfast South clearly didn't want the SDLP, however that's what they got. Of some miracle they got more or less what PR might have given them. However all the other parties got wild results compared to what the country wanted.

Then if we look at, say, Germany, we can see that in 2017 the AfD got 12.6% of the vote, the same as UKIP in the UK and got 90 seats, instead of UKIP's one.

The real difference between FPTP and PR are this:

1) It's very difficult to buy an election. In the US House elections there are many seats which could go one way or the other. So the big money rolls up and throws dirt, because it's easier to be negative than positive.

2) It's very difficult for the voter, with FPTP, to change anything. The voters have no control. With PR in Germany the voters got fed up with the CDU/CSU so they voted for the AfD, both are right wing parties. You're not throwing away your vote, the CDU/CSU could, potentially be in coalition with the AfD, the right still keeps its votes.

In the US if you want a protest vote, you either vote 3rd party, your vote is meaningless, or you vote against your wing of the party, which gifts to the other wing.

In the UK Labour and the Lib Dems are both left wing parties, and mainstream. While on the right, until recently, it was only the Tories. This gave a HUGE advantage to the Tories.

From 2010 to 2024 the Tories only got more votes than the two left wing parties once, but were running the government the whole time.

3) Politicians under FPTP are more likely to look to the money. Get the money, do the bidding of the rich, and you will win because they'll throw money at you. With PR you need to have policies that appeal to people. Governments need to be competent, or they will either get voted out or see a reduction in the number of seats.

In the US, the Reps and Dems win all the time, if they lose this time, then there's next time. In Germany, potentially, a third party could overtake a main party and destroy them, within years.
You are comparing the EU multi-party craziness to the US locked-in 2-party voting system.
I assume you like the open multi-party system of the EU to the closed 2-party US system.
3rd parties always fail in the US, always. So why waste your time or money? I won't.

I can think of (4) ways to potentially reduce the number of mass shootings.
All of them offend one group or the other.
1. Have AI scour online personas for potential shooter profiles. If found, the FBI database will be checked to see if any guns were purchased, if not a "red-flag stop" will be issued so the FBI denies all gun purchases until the stop is cleared. If they have purchased any guns, the police will be directed to hold them until the stop is cleared. Civil libertarians and NRA members will both hate this idea. This is based on the fact that shooters generally have an online presence.

2. Gun control like democrats keep whining for.

3. Hold parents legally responsible for the actions of their kids until the age of 25. They should know if their kid is messed up. If they report a kid for therapy or psychological evaluation, the state shares the cost.

4. Re-open outpatient mental institutions. Too many insane people are on the street.

5. No action. Things stay as-is.
1. Unconstitutional - 4th Amendment Violation for every person.
2. Unconstitutional - 2nd Amendment violation.
3. Would not apply to the Minneapolis or Nashville shooters as they were adults. Otherwise. I might be good with this.
4. You still have to identify these people and there are all sorts of HIPAA and privacy issues.
5. Not a real option. You should have included "other".

AI? You do know that ai typically gives wring answers. Just about anything I search using ai comes up wrong. When I point out ai is wrong, ai corrects itself but trys to convince me it is still right.

what can be done, dont turn boys into girls

Stop the media from stating boys becoming girls is beautiful

Stop all doctors from perforning trans mutilations, surgeries

Stop calling the political propaganda outlets news

Stop yelling fire in a crowded theater, that is all the lies made to make young people hate their country, hate their neighbors

Stop the climate change doomsday bullshit

Stop the neighbor maga is a fascist propaganda

stop the politicians and all the media from telling us there is no hope

Let a young man buy a home for cheap, dirt cheap. Make owning a home as easy as buying a can of soda

You don't believe in freedom of speech?

You are really hilarious! :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg:

1. Unconstitutional - 4th Amendment Violation for every person.
I beg to differ. If a person wants to buy or own a gun we can put restrictions on them to help the FBI know if they should approve the purchase of guns. Maybe you missed the Janet Reno era super-snoop program Carnivore"? Just imagine what the government has today or will have with AI.
2. Unconstitutional - 2nd Amendment violation.
I agree. But I had to put that option there for my wife, she screams 😱 about guns after every mass shooting.
3. Would not apply to the Minneapolis or Nashville shooters as they were adults. Otherwise. I might be good with this.
The MN shooter was 23, I said until age 25.
4. You still have to identify these people and there are all sorts of HIPAA and privacy issues.
Crazies do mass shootings, why the **** should we allow them to own guns?
Mental health professionals should be required to red-flag potential shooters.
5. Not a real option. You should have included "other".
OK

46,000+ died by gun violence.

Is that acceptable to you?

No murders are acceptable to me if that clarifies things but attempts to eviscerate our Constitution are just as abhorrent as well as in violation of an oath I took long ago.

The deadliest "assault weapon", per incident was $1.00 worth of gasoline used to kill over 85 people in a New York City night club years ago.

People will always find ways to kill each other and attempts to control human behavior by banning inanimate objects have always failed.

More affordable and accessible mental health care costs more but real solutions are never cheap and easy.

Go back to the types of values we had back in the day. Without segregation…

We have too many drugs in society, the legalization of marijuana, radical feminism, radical leftism, too many antidepressants being over prescribed, cancel culture, the kids swiping videos on TikTok and Instagram all day playing a role in the degraded modern day culture we have.

The eventual goal must be no or very little security at school. And get rid of this outlandish thought of arming teachers. It’s understandable now that people want to arm teachers, considering what has happened. But if folks look at the bigger picture realize that in the past parents just walked right into a school and pick their kid up. The security measures is a waste of taxpayer dollars. But in order to get rid of the security the culture needs to change.
Why don't you just snap your fingers and make it happen? We should all get right on your ridiculous plan!

You do realize that in 2017 Trump signed a law making it easier for the mentally ill to buy weapons. I am glad to see you and other MAGA s are coming around to see that he was wrong to do so and would like to see the Obama rules reinstated.

Because it was unconstitutional to do so. No due process allowed.
