Actually, those are closer to Libertarian views. But speaking for myself, yes. The basic tenant of freedom is this. Your rights end where mine begin. You are free to do whatever you choose as long as you don’t harm another.
So, what is your view on:
1. Welfare: Paying single mothers, basically, to have kids out of wedlock, children they are unable to financially support. (Have a kid, get a check...)?!
2. Funding For Illegals / Sanctuary Cities: Taking law-abiding citizens' tax dollars to fund criminals, in violation of US Immigration law (and other laws)
What if the father died at work leaving the single mother to fend for herself? What if the Father was convicted of a crime leaving his wife and children alone? What if the husband and father was later found to be convicted of a crime he did not commit? We can play the what if game from now to Christmas.
The problem is conflicting laws. We have passed laws that low income families get financial assistance. If you think running on tax increases is a sure way to lose elections, try running on eliminating social services. The Republicans would be so far in the minority they would be able to manage caucus meetings in a phone booth.
Welfare to workfare was a plan passed during the Clinton administration. The idea was to give job training to people on welfare, or require them to work a certain number of hours to qualify for assistance. The argument then was we showed our compassion by helping move people from welfare so self sufficiency.
There were many comments made at the time. The old teach a man to fish argument was popular. Odd isn’t it that this wise argument is lost today? Perhaps not odd. Perhaps it is simply sad.
The last time the immigration issue came up, I liked the argument that our policy should be a mirror image of the nation the people came from. For Mexico, you could never be a citizen, or buy land, or vote. The most you or your descendants could achieve was resident status if you immigrated to Mexico as one example.
But your reply shows something else. It shows that the stupidity of party purity does not exist solely on the left.
Great what it strawmen....
Bottom line is I am talking about poor decision-making, not unforeseen tragedies of fathers dying, etc....
Pfui. You lumped all single mothers together. In an earlier reply you denounced Abortion. You don’t want abortions, and don’t want to pay for the kids regardless of how they got here. You don’t get to pretend that while discussing one you never said anything about the other. What about Veterans, are we doing too much, or too little for them, and their families? Are we failing our Veterans by not providing support for them, and their families after they return from war in pieces psychologically speaking? Or are we doing too much for these freeloaders who expect everyone pay when they obviously knew what they were getting into when they signed up?
How we got here is part of the discussion, and surprise surprise, divorce rates among returned veterans is up by nearly fifty percent. Do we blame the now single Mothers for having no father figure earning money? Or do we blame the Gold Star wives for being silly enough to marry a soldier?
Jackass, you have a lot of absolute opinions, and they ignore reality. Honestly I am not surprised, such absolute arguments usually ignore a large chunk of reality. When called on it, you wish to dismiss reality so you can focus on one small segment of the problem facing our society. A one size fits none answer to the problem that you fail to understand at all, much less adequately.
So do we cut Welfare to the Gold Star families? Those freeloaders, he knew what he was getting into when he signed the contract. He should have known better than get married. Is that the attitude we should take? Or do we say they’re OK, and deserve more money because of the sacrifice of the Veteran? How about cops, firefighters, and the list goes on and on.
Nah, you want to pretend that everyone on welfare is just having babies to get more money. Pfui. That was the idea behind the Welfare reform during the Clinton Era. You see, Newt and the Republicans pushed it up to his desk half a dozen times before finally coming to an agreement on it. It was heralded as a huge step forward, the chance to get people off welfare, and earning. Giving them a hand up, not a hand out.
You don’t even pretend to care about that, instead refusing to admit that we had a system that was showing promise, because then you might have to say something almost nice about a Democrat, and worse a Clinton. The Horror.
I doubt you can learn anything from this song, but I’ll try.
I know you can’t learn from this song, but this is for the others who know that every story is different, and personal, and the one thing they all have in common, is that they need our help.
Looking forward to you posting a comment on YouTube for the Five Finger song about how those lazy veterans need to get off their asses and get to work. They knew what they were doing when they signed up, and get no compassion from you.
