I think it was the Greeks before BC. They gave us the idea of the atoms, history, Logic, democracy, philosophy, medicine, republics, and not only did they know the earth was round but they figured out how round. Of course, he was off a couple hundred miles. Where the Greeks goofed was in continuing the Ptolemaic system.

Talking about Northern Europe...Germany, Britain, France, Norway, Ireland, etc.

I am assuming that the Mayans, Aztec and Inca's all had pyimids and much more organized societies from the 100 bc to 400 ad. Maybe as far up as the 9th century. Am I right? I am talking about Britain...NOT Italy or Greece.
