Hate to point out that the recently-deceased Chevy SS was superior to every car mentioned above in every measurable way. And it bombed.

An El Camino SS, suitably updated, would be cool as fcuk. Based on current Malibu chassis.

Technically, they do make modern versions of Cobras. Backdraft Cobra's have BMW suspension and steering, and Coyote motors.
