I am not clear about the motivations of European colonization in Africa. Were they political, religious and/or commercial? Of what benefit was the Congo to Belgium?

1. Dismantling of a many‑thousand‑year‑old institution of slavery (something our BLM , woke, Afro- American, and African politicians + so called the global south, never mention).
2. Geopolitics, to limit the expansion of other powers.
