Personally, I think the betterment of Mani could be achieved by not dying in some Persian prison. Furthermore, scrap all that doctrinal nonsense about self-denial, chastity, and vegetarianism. He should admit he's not an apostle of Jesus or a Prophet and unload himself of that burden of responsibility. That gnostic stuff never pans out anyway.
