I've noticed that a lot of politicians seem to get upset whenever someone says something like God sits above them. I don't want to get into the debate about the existence of God but lets assume that an all powerful being does exist just for the sake of argument. Assume it is true for a moment. God would command a lot of authority over the people in their spiritual and even the decisions of their own lives and this is exactly what deities do in most religions. People will follow their own religion's rules of behavior more than the rules laid out by their own government(s) or anyone else for that matter. Why would anyone follow the orders of the second in command ahead of the first in command? Isn't their some Hubris on the part of politicians who get upset when someone says that they follow the laws of God ahead the laws crafted by the politicians? Are they saying they should occupy the position held by God himself in the hearts of the religious?

When God assumes command we will follow His Laws. Until then, anyone who presumes to speak for God is a liar. So in the physical world the religious had better follow the man-made laws of their jurisdiction or sit in prison.

That is a very good point that God really doesn't have a physicial jurisdiction in our world. That much is obvious because no one can expect a court to nullify a law because it violates God's law. The point I was making was that politicians think they are God. The ten commandments say don't kill, don't steal, don't lie, and etc. Many of these things governments already prevent people from doing so many religious rules aren't incompatible with existing laws which makes this idea of God's moral authority over us harmless to the order already laid out by the rules of civil society. Now If they see this harmless idea as a threat then how much authority do you think THEY THINK they should have? Do you see the point I was making.

But... the government = god, according to the regressive religion.

Since so much of the political debate is dominated by progressive-socialist type thinking it is natural for politicians to see themselves as God. One idea to challenge this notion is to point out that we really don't know if God exist with any scientific accuracy so it remains as a matter of belief. Well if God doesn't exist then how can any politician see their authority as god-like in the first place since it doesn't exist. The other is if God does exist then their can only be one God and no politician can ever be him. I prefer the first one since it is the most convincing to the non-religious.
