What is unity?

What does unity or 'coming together' mean to you?

  • 1. Everyone sharing a vision/goal and working together to achieve it.

  • 2. Everyone being a Democrat

  • 3. Everyone being a Republican

  • 4. Everyone being on the right

  • 5. Everyone being on the left

  • 6. Everyone agreeing and supporting what I/my side wants

  • 7. Me giving up what is important to me in order to get along.

  • 8. Other and I'll explain in my post

Mainstream media has not done that. Right-wing media and right-wing politicians have done that. Whining about free speech because you can't spew hate speech with impunity.
Like I said, you have to own it and change. It is possible Trump didn't call for unity because he understands what the Left thinks. Just like we see on this thread?

Unity is this situation could mean joining in support of free speech, while condemning hate speech. Showing a universal priority to resist violence and those who use it.
Thank you. That is perhaps a more narrow definition that I'm shooting for, but very well said.

I was just thinking. Suppose a controversial figure in your family dies. He leaves behind grieving parents, a devastated wife, small children, and many other of friends and family who loved him. At his funeral, even those who were alienated from this person show up to comfort, console, support the grieving. Only those of us who have lost loved ones understand how important that can be. And how helpful it is. And it can be a unifying experience for those who attend.

But what if some come to the funeral and recite all the reasons they disagreed with or disliked or hated the deceased; listed everything he ever said or did that they despised? How helpful, comforting, unifying would that be? Would anybody see that as love, caring, concern for the bereaved? Would the funeral be a unifying experience? Or a divisive one?

Love can be setting aside our personal opinions/feelings for the benefit of another who needs us to be there for them more.

I think some in our society may be incapable of love? So long as that exists, there is unlikely to be unity.

Unity with the demented LEFT is completely IMPOSSIBLE.
And, they'll freaking KILL YOU to prove it.

Whatever it is OP, are you for a more unified America, yes or no?
Of course I am. I am for us all sharing a common vision/goal that makes us as Americans, makes our country stronger, brighter, more free, more compassionate, more prosperous.

I notice you didn't vote in the poll at least yet. So what does unity/coming together mean to you?

What you said was a lie. So own that because nobody has to own your lies but you. Your right-wing victimhood gets nothing here. Trump didn't call for unity because he's a divider, and those who want division follow him. The left didn't kill Charlie Kirk.

What could change your mind about those on the left? What does unity/coming together mean to you?

I can point to some unity.

A Turning Point USA spokesperson said in a social media post that the organization has been deluged with requests to start new campus chapters for high schools and colleges in the days following Charlie Kirk's death.

Andrew Kolvet said in a post on X early Sunday, Sept. 14, that the group has received more than 32,000 inquiries in 48 hours to start new campus chapters. Turning Point USA, the conservative youth-focused organization founded by Charlie Kirk, says it currently has about 900 college chapters and 1,200 high school chapters.

Unity can only grow if we talk to each other, which was the key to Charlie Kirk's mission. The Left knew that and one person took the messages of the Left and decided killing was justified.

All your choices were wrong.

Unity means having separate opinions, respecting those opinions and engaging in civil discourse for the common good. It doesn't mean you agree all the time or part of the time, it means you respect the process as a means forward.
Do you believe either the left or the right does that in our American society? Or any other society?

You say all the options are wrong. How does Option 1 in the poll not express this?

What could change your mind about those on the left? What does unity/coming together mean to you?
They could renounce Marxism and SATAN, then perhaps I'd give them a chance to prove themselves as NOT DANGEROUS MANIACS.
Of course, that will NEVER happen.

High school chapters? Seems like they are trying to indoctrinate minors.

Personally, I'm supporting unity by posting here and donating to Turning Point USA.
