People are calling the San Bernadino shooting an act of terrorism. Was it? DOes it make a difference if the guy was motivated to shoot those people because he thought he was doing Allah's will, or because someone insulted him at a Christmas party?
It doesnt.
Either case he is one nutjob wasting a bunch of innocent people.
WHat constitutes terrorism is what we saw in Paris: coordinated attacks planned by others as part of a global effort. This was also 9/11.
But individual acts, no matter how heinous, are not acts of terrorism.

Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims....

Islam is a political ideology and Farkook was linked to that ideology.....

Islam is a reliigion, not a political ideology. Merely being "linked" to it doesnt make him a terrorist.
I dont think he was a terrorist at all. Merely another nutjob with a desire for fame.

Terrorism
Organization type
In its broadest sense, terrorism is any act designed to cause terror. In a narrower sense, terrorism can be understood to feature a political objective. The word terrorism is politically loaded and emotionally charged. ~wiki

ter·ror
ˈterər/dread, horror, fear and trembling, fright, alarm, panic
"she screamed in terror"

A terrorist carries out an act that causes terror.

I can assure you that every single victim in a mass shooting situation is terrified.

Every victim of every violent crime is terrified. Is every violent crime an act of terrorism?

lol, this your sideways attempt to take heat off domestic rightwing terrorists, eh?

Since they are more commonly 'lone wolves'.

So the Boston Marathon dudes were not terrorists? Timothy Mcveigh wasn't?

I dont think he was a terrorist at all. Merely another nutjob with a desire for fame.

In its basic form it is a fascist top-down political system....it is a total way of life.....where everything is controlled from religious practices to economics, law, politics, and social life....

jihad is a duty of Islam.....it can be either an 'inner struggle' (peacefully) or an 'outer struggle' (violently)......seems Farkook chose the latter...

It is a total way of life. True.
Jihad is the duty to repel invaders against the dar el salaam. That jihaddists have misappropriated the term is nothing new.

Terrorism is a tactic...usually employed by those not in power, to achieve political goals...can be used by a range of actors. Maybe we should look into it....maybe we have....

you seem to think that the jihadis practice some 'other' form of religion than Islam....sects like the IS actually are the fundamentalists of Islam.....they follow the Koran literally....

But individual acts, no matter how heinous, are not acts of terrorism.

The question is if this was actually an individual act, or part of something coordinated.

To me terrorism is the use of force in an asymmetrical manner to obtain political change.

That it requires coordination is something that to me is debatable.

Your own definition tends to presuppose a larger organization or effort.

They do. They are to Islam what the Westboro Baptists are to Protestant Christianity.

No but if they did they would look like Wahhabism.
