My next door neighbor's grandfather got a medal in the Spanish-American war of 1898, Then forgotten His history. Boniface Sandoval

To answer the actual Post question: History is the written down stories of events that occurred. Depending upon the topic the writings can often be written by the winners in conflicts, so the writings can be somewhat skewed in their favor.

History is the written and oral stories of society's collective memory.

My great uncle served with TR in Cuba and he won a medal. Pre- History is before writing. History is after writing.

History, literal, factual history, is the events leading up to the present. The cause and effect that created the now. All the things that have happened already.

The present is the future's history. History is the back end of the reality wave we are riding into tomorrow. The present is the flame and history is the smoke and ashes of the burnt end of the fuse.
