The actual scientific value is an early peek at antibody testing to reveal "how deadly" or serious Covid 19 really is... The death rate for example is a GUESS derived from dividing deaths by an ESTIMATE of the #infections.. That "constant" in the denominator that multiplies #reported into #infections is by "current" wisdom only a factor of 2.. If it turns out to BE 20 or 50 -- the death rate is gonna start to approach a "normal" flu...

Yes, I understand these numbers, but the differences are what matter, not the similarities. The difference is that this novel virus caught us with no immunity and is very contagious. Surely you understand why hospitals in NYC are overwhelmed that are not this overwhelmed during a normal flu season, right? So, we flatten the curve, and it buys us time to gain some sort of immunity (be it herd or vaccines) and to find effective treatments. With good immunity and treatments, yes, a 'normal flue" type of impact is what we hope to see, in the future.

Also, the "death rate" is not an inherent property of a virus. We influence that death rate with our treatments.
