I remember going to a Yankees/Baltimore double-header in Yankee Stadium around 1983-4, it was a bus trip and from the parking lot to the stadium I must have saw 100+ rats scurrying about.

They even had signs up about the danger of the rats.

On the trip in, there were the old tenement buildings, and the trash was up to the first story windows in the alleys between them.....The trash looked like it was breathing due to the rats!
