Odd thing is, I looked into moving there shortly before the fire

I remember riding through the area on AMTRAK in 2016 and later driving through the area

Paradise is not solid blue, however.
Yeah there are still pockets. North of there still cling to the state of Jefferson. A large loafing shed just east of Yreka has those words in house-high font painted on it. Nevertheless, Newsome and the democrats still control it.

I knew a few that died. My friends sister tried to escape. Kids were in school and the school bus got them all out. Unhappily, their grandma and dad did not survive it..or the two dogs. They burned in their car. First responders found them.

A horse escaped too. Got in someone's swimming pool under a tarp. But many animals..dogs, cats, raccoons, horses, deer, bear, etc...did not make it. I'm actually surprised Dennis, me and our roomie did. And I am thankful that a little voice the day before told me to fill up my van. So I did. Thank God.

Have a friend there, he rebuilt a 'fire safe' house. Two other friends that lived there moved away.

Concerning the OPs question...it is no longer the little mountain hamlet it was. Now its the suburbs of Chico, with sky high prices. They live in Paradise and work in Chico. Slow going on rebuilding, and it looks so very different now, it makes me sad to go there which I did about a year ago. Got depressed driving around, so I left. I am about 40 minutes south of Paradise now.

They all scattered. 23000 people..gone. Some rebuilt but not many. No more affordable housing, no more affordable rent. Hopefully it stays conservative but who knows. It was when I lived there. I miss it. I remember when Dennis and I first got into town and went to the super market and I said to him...."looks like we now live in Duck Dynasty". lol

I also said it was a fire just waiting to happen.

The warnings were there, there were a few fires in the years before I believe.
