Has any democrat other than me who was one but got educated and flipped to the Republicans about 45 years back said why they are democrats?

My uncle, Princeton grad former 60s hippy. He got his shit together, staunch republican. He died jan. 2020, o didn't see the depths of which the dems have become.

This nation has had long periods of Democrat's promises yet they never got rid of the poor or the rich that they despise so much. But the rich pay for the government to the tune of about 90% and the poor are always poor according to Democrats. What do they offer America?
