The problem as I see it, is, if the House played by fair and transparent rules, the GOP would have been forced to at least entertain the same (absent Executive Privilege) in the Senate.

Why would anyone do differently when they can argue, that the vote may not have even had been approved by the House, if Trump and his team would have had their witness list called, equal lawyer representation (not 3v1), etc.

It's purely political. I might be stupid, but I smell the obvious. As always, some don't understand the hypocrisy, double standards, or the theory of the "chicken and the egg". Dems are trying to hookwink the old GOP, this is a different party now, they fight back and tell the alt-left and the global socialists to go pound sand. They did so in the Kavanaugh albatross and they are doing so now.

They have to if they want to remain relevant and America is to exist as a Republic with an honoured constitution. You cannot have any one party jam down the throats of the American People less than a year before an election some very weak accusations, some of which would lead to almost any president being impeached ("Abuse of Power" for instance).

Interesting turn of phrase, "clear his name". Just how many of the howling mob do you think would say, "Well, the witnesses all said he was innocent, so I guess that's it then.
