What they learn depends on how liberal the area they grow up in.
If it is an urban liberal city - them absolutely the lesson they have consistently learned is that if they are a minority, they are much-much less likely to be prosecuted at all, and if they are, likely to get out early so the city can have better records of minority jail populations.

Heinous crimes are committed everywhere by all sorts of people. Sadly, our criminal justice system allows them to get away with it. There is perverse symbiotic relationship between criminals and the criminal justice system.
