While candidates faced a range of typical policy questions, at one point each was asked to grade California Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of the state’s homelessness crisis and explain what they would do differently. The Republican candidates were quick to give Newsom an “F,” while the Democratic candidates, somewhat surprisingly, offered extremely favorable assessments.

Put simply, democrats are fine to very fine with the homelessness in NYC, so, don't expect any democrat to do anything about it anytime soon. Gee, I wonder what percentage of the homeless are muslim?

Newsom hasn't endorsed any candidate yet, so maybe they're looking to make points. Although I don't feel an endorsement from Newsom means much.

Newsom doesn't want to look bad by endorsing a loser. If it comes to one democrat and one republican in the general, Newsom will probably endorse as the democrat would be much more likely to win.
