Since being a Communist is not a crime, as long as anyone holding a government office acts in accordance with the hiring administration's desires, breaks no laws, and performs competently, there can be no means of getting rid of them that would be acceptable.

No one has a right to a government job, especially not one that gives them access to sensative materials that could endanger American lives if the got into the wrong hands. Whether you get hired and keep your jobs depends entirely on whether doing servers the needs of the American people. Even today, if you were ever a member of the Communist Party you are ineligable to recieve a security clearance. You are also ineligable If your wife or girlfriend is not an American citizen. Even you have ever been arreste for drunk driving or have a record of mismanaging your finances you are ineligable. If you're a homosexual, you're ineligable.
This is as is should be, because these positions do not exist to provide party toadies with jobs.
And the Administration's desires aren't relevant. FDR was a poltroon who desired to fill his admistration with commies, but he had no authority to do so.
The long and the short of it is that you believe Communist spies are entitled to hold their government position. I can imagine anything more idiotic.
[If someone holding a position of public trust betrays that trust through his or her ACTIONS -- not political beliefs -- then adequate means exist of remedying the matter and witch-hunts by grandstanding members of Congress out to make a name for themselves are not needed. If not, then no harm is done, and no remedy is necessary.
You don't give potential spies a chance to send the plans for the A-bomb back to old Uncle Joe. It's too late to close the barn door after the cattle have already left. There is no means to "remedy" your enemies having posession of your most sensative information.
