Trump is threatening or passing tariffs on foreign products. Not on Russia or other Authoritarian regimes, but on America's traditional allies, Western Democracies.
So our former allies have decided to fight back.
Clearly, they have decided the best way is to affect America's next election. And how are they doing that?
By targeting products that are sold by Trump voters. Pork, soy beans and so on.
I was watching one Trump voter, a family that raises hogs. They said they have over 400,000. They said they could take the tariffs for a year. That without being able to sell overseas, the price of pork would drop in this country due to oversupply. But only for a year. If it goes any longer, they lose their business.
So it's a race. In a trade war, the question is "who is the last man standing"?
And with Trump ripping up one agreement after another, having a history of bankruptcies and not paying his workers or his creditors, who would sign new agreements with this country?
Healthcare can be kind of nebulous, but markets aren't. Affect them and that threatens national security. Which is probably the point. Something both Russia and Trump agree on. A weakened America.
