Welsh 20mph limit cuts crashes and fatalities

Thread summary:

100 lives were saved. The conservatives here instantly went apeshit with hatred.

Conservatism is a death cult, and they want everyone to know it. They consider every unnecessary death to be a burnt offering to their dark lord Moloch, and they seek to maximize such burnt offerings.
I am keen to learn how Americans keep citizens safe. Its a bit of a shock to find that pro lefers are actually prolifish at best.

No actually, I have admitted that this article is correct.

. . . but the point is not if lives are saved, it is about whether folks have freedom and liberty.

If you lock the whole population down under martial law, make all booze and any food that is unhealthy illegal, and take away folks freedom to drive, you can save even more LIVES!

Uou oddballs love to dramatise simple measures that keep people safer. Its easier than dealing with the facts.

Unlike septic yanks, they can sail the seas!!
We kicked your asses on the high seas during the War of 1812. In a period of over 100 years the RN lost only a few single ship actions out of over 300 occurrences, almost all of those were to us.

The only battle you won was the Shannon vs the Chesapeake. At that time the Shannon was probably the best trained ship in the RN, while the Chesapeake had a new crew, and had never yet been to sea.

I knew you were dumb but:

three were fatalities,

"
Government officials have urged caution in attributing the fall in casualties to the 20mph limit.

The Welsh government's chief statistician said in a blog last year that at least three year's worth of collision data would be required for a meaningful comparison to be made.

Casualty figures have also been on a downward trend for sometime - the Welsh government said they have "declined steadily over the last decade"."

Little things pleases little minds, so let him have that little imaginary dance in his little head. We all know it takes years to collect meaningful data, Tommy doesn't.

If we switched back to the horse and buggy that would eliminate 100% of automobile accidents.

It wouldn't smell very good, though.
Thomas will have to campaign on getting speed limits below 4mph

When did the first motoring fatality occur?

Mrs Bridget Driscoll of Old Town, Croydon became the first motoring fatality on 17 August 1896, when she was run over by a Roger-Benz car at Crystal Palace, London. Employed by the Anglo-French Motor Co, Arthur Edsell was driving at 4mph/6.44kph when he hit Mrs Driscoll, fracturing her skull in the process.

On my mother's side, a few generations back, one relative was run/ran over by a cart. I don't know if it was fatal or not.

I think Tommy is onto something here, let's ban roads. How safe are pavements/sidewalks 🤔

simple measures that keep people safer.
If it is 20mph in the city? Fine, leave it up to residents of the city if they want it to be 20mph.

I live near a school zone, and there it is 35mph in front of the high school. I have no problem with that. . .

BUT? You have no idea how big this nation is. 20mph IS NOT a simple measure here. It most cases? It would be completely and totally inappropriate.

Your folks can do what you want, and likewise, you should let others make their own laws.

Yes my eyesight is now so poor I have given up driving. I think thats the responsible thing to do.
That was once my problem. I was taken care of by an eye specialist and he restored my vision to best ever.

I need to have cataract surgery but because of a medical problem, am reluctant to do so. My vision is still okay for driving, but of course, as soon as I feel I'm no longer a safe driver, I'll quit.

Still absolutely can't drive at night.

Since I am not a doctor, I can't make claims. In my case, I also had cataracts and the doctor took them out and put in new lenses. Recovery was around 2-3 days I think. I was also troubled to drive at night due to very hard to read road signs due to the cataracts. That problem has vanished.

Cool! That makes me want to talk more to my eye doctor.

With the problem that keeps me away from the surgery, I have a condition that can make it excruciatingly painful for anyone to touch the right side of my face. I'm terrified of having the oral surgery I need for the same reason.

I'll readdress this with the doctor. Thanks.

One thing, your eyes are in sockets. When you trust and talk to your doctor, who must have done cataract surgery or see a different doctor, he can discuss with you if he can't help you. My first discussion was about Lasik Surgery, My doctor said no to that. What a blessing to see a great doctor who solved my vision problems. When looking into a mirror, do you see your cataracts? I could not see mine. They were not so bad my eyes seemed cloudy in the mirror.

I remembered what my late husband's cataracts looked like. Mine are nothing like that -- no cloudiness I can see. The floaters are annoying, but not so that I don't feel safe driving.

Thanks for your advice.

I hope you improve. Believe it or not, I have two late ex-wives.

After we divorced, (wife 1) she got married. When she was stricken by Alzheimer's, he was out looking for women. She was in their home and laying in feces and urine. This caused him to be arrested. She was put into a medical facility and there lived a sad life. She died there.
Wife 2 divorced me, and moved from CA to Hawaii. There, she per our daughter, got very depressed. We think she decided to commit suicide. Her car was found in a parking area with her purse and cell phone in it. She was not found though they searched even the Pacific Ocean.
