Well, I Finally won a Contest (1st Prize winner)

I once pitched a no hitter in softball, and my team lost 31 to two. All 31 runs were unearned. The fielders on my team couldn't catch or throw. They were pathetic.
LOL we were in first place in a league I played in and then we got slaughter ruled by an amazonian all-female team. They were up 21-0 after the first inning and they called the game. They really had no option other than hit home run after home run because those girls were way too big to actually run to a base. TBH I was kind of amazed at how powerful they were. I have never seen anybody come close to hitting a softball as far as some of them could.

Seeing as how it's taken almost 80 years for me to do this, I thought I'd let some folks know.
Didn't win any money, but among artists, we care more about notariety than money (which could lead to money also).

Throughout my life, I've entered maybe 15 or 20 contests (mostly music), and didn't win them. Over the past 3 months, I've been entering art contests in the art gallery website > Fine Art America. I've entered about 50 contests, and have had one 2nd place winner, and two 3rd place winners, but this was the first 1st place win.

The contests vary a lot in the number of entries. This one had originally 14 images, which whittled down to 8 (6 removed because of rule violations), leaving 8 entries. Some contests have over 3,000 entries, which gets a bit ridiculous.

Have you ever won a contest ? If so, tell us about it. Doesn't matter what it was for. It would be interesting to hear about anybody winning a contest whatever it may be.
Here we are almost 5 months later, and after entering a lot more Fine Art America contests, I'm now an 8 Time First Place Winner. Whatever might be said about this, I will tell you it is a result of 3 things >>
  • creativity
  • determination
  • hard work
Here's my latest painting, entered in the contest > Songs of Bob Dylan

Alludes to the words of the 4th verse in the song Mr Tambourine Man>>

"Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky
With one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea
Circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate
Driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow"

I won two contests when I was a young man. First prize in the first one was a huge libary of books, called the great books. I lived in the SF Bay area so surely there were many entries. The contest was about great ideas where cont3estants had to submit a question considered a great idea. I still own that number of great books.

Second was just because of my license plate on my car. Standard oil ran a contest that ended up having fraud show up. I got letters in my mail telling me I won money and for me to show up at addresses where for a fee, I would learn where I won this money. Never the actual amount, but dollars off. I went to one person's office and there I got the idea by her accident, where the money was. I made no agreement with her and drove a short distance to Standard Oil gas station and saw my plate listed on their announcements. They had forms for me to get the $1,000 later mailed to me.
are they charred from the fire you set to burn your house down
The books were not harmed when the fire fighters put out the fire. I have them with me here in Oregon. I was not guilty of setting the fire and it was done by fireworks. I was in bed trying to sleep.
