Well, I Finally won a Contest (1st Prize winner)

Seeing as how it's taken almost 80 years for me to do this, I thought I'd let some folks know.
Didn't win any money, but among artists, we care more about notariety than money (which could lead to money also).

Throughout my life, I've entered maybe 15 or 20 contests (mostly music), and didn't win them. Over the past 3 months, I've been entering art contests in the art gallery website > Fine Art America. I've entered about 50 contests, and have had one 2nd place winner, and two 3rd place winners, but this was the first 1st place win.

The contests vary a lot in the number of entries. This one had originally 14 images, which whittled down to 8 (6 removed because of rule violations), leaving 8 entries. Some contests have over 3,000 entries, which gets a bit ridiculous.

Have you ever won a contest ? If so, tell us about it. Doesn't matter what it was for. It would be intersting to hear about anybody winning a contest whatever it may be.

YES, I entered a contest where ideas were judged. I submitted what was called Great ideas. I got a notice I won the full set of books called the Great Books, I have them still.

(track & field, ball team, fishing, knitting, beauty contest, whatever)

I won Buyer of the Year, out of 78 other Buyers for a department store chain's Florida Division...and got a 10 day all inclusive paid Trip to Hawaii (Maui) with the hubby, including a convertible mustang rental, as the prize!!!

It was the best vacation of our lives, and we swore we would go back and reexperience it once every 10 years, but never did.... The Caribbean was so much easier to vacay than the long long long flights from Florida to Hawaii....

Never won another thing!

My hubby won season tickets to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Karaoke contest, ...but it was back when the Bucs were losers....it was fun just to be there live....

Was on a 880 relay team that won state and went to nationals. Also was state checker champ.

The Caribbean water is warmer, and more calm & clear.
Just don't listen to those steel drums too long.

For people who are retired, painting is a great way to spend time. Relaxing, peaceful, not really too expensive, and you come out with something to show for it.
Better than doing drugs.

I won a fencing competition. It was an all day elimination meet. There was just me and my coach. Not one person I knew bothered to show up.

I haven't entered any type of competition since H.S.

In H.S. I won more art competitions than I can remember, & was victorious in many debate and forensic tournaments.

oh. . . I forgot, yeah, I was on a debate team in college as well. That was too much work and they were far too competitive for my tastes. We lost, a lot. A few victories, but no tournaments.

Shooting. 2nd in track behind the taller black boy.
He was fast. Sometimes you gotta realize your limitations.
He was a great sport though, and I was always right there with him. Brian was his name.
I told him he was faster because he was. And we laughed. He was #1 every time.
Me and him was #1 and #2.
The rest were much further back. I kept trying to beat him. Was not happening.

In a raffle a number of years ago, I won a tin of biscuits. That's it tbh.
