In a typical PGA golf tournament, they have a hundred or so golfers to start, they play 36 holes on Thursday and Friday, and only the top 48 play on Saturday and Sunday.
But of course, you often have more than one golfer having the same score as the #48 golfer, so it is not unusual to have a few more than 48 playing on the weekend.
