How bout we do this?
No tips above 10 percent. A tip is just a nice addition to the meal to acknowledge a pleasant server or service above and beyond normal. Tip based on the performance of the server, not the price of the meal.
Server does not work harder to deliver a prime steak or a burger and fries

But tipping culture is out of hand. Tips start at 20 percent and it is the customer responsible for the livelihood of the server. Leaving a bad tip is taking food out of the mouths of their family. I am already paying for the food, restaurant rent, advertising, insurance, taxes…….why am I expected to pay the salary of someone who works for YOU?

I tip as a reward and because G-d demands I give charitably when I can. I mentally include the tip before I order.

I haven't dined out for some time but I accept the unspoken rules as part of the process.

Just don't tip. We don't bother in the UK.

I suppose you have to be a strong minded culture not to tip.

Are you serious?.... servers take minimum wage jobs so they survive on tips... if I get a great server I give them 25% minimum... at the club I give up to 30% because I see them work their butts off... something that is foreign to you no doubt...

.

I tip generously when the service warrants it, and not at all when the service sucks. I tip just as well for a burger as I do for a high end meal.

And I have been to a couple of places where, if you do not tip generously, you are not asked to come back.

.
High end meal? In the US 🤔

Is that an extra strip of bacon in the burger? ;)

Why we need to change tipping culture

Why should I be expected to compensate for the low pay restaurants give servers ?
They work for the restaurant, it is the restaurant who should compensate, not the patron

Tipping culture is antiquated bullshit, and I'm not sure it was ever relevant or justified. It's just a way to get the public to cover what should be business expenses.

Your meal costs less dummy because of the low wages... this is what is wrong with commies... you just don't know how the working world works... you think it all comes from thin air... don't be a cheapskate... tip at at least 20%...

or parsimonious...
Nope, just knowing that you get paid a wage to do a job, it's called minimum wage. Someone who tips knowing that that's the servers wage is dumb, and condoning below minimum wage conditions.

Labor is just another commodity the same as food, rent, advertising insurance, taxes. Because the USA does have a tipping culture, the cost of our meal is less than it would be if the staff couldn't count on tips as part of their income.

A bad, indifferent, surly waiter doesn't get a 20% tip from us. He/she is lucky to get that 10%.

A really good waiter who makes the dining out experience pleasant and more fun for us will usually get more than a 20% tip. We calculate that tip into our expected expense to dine out.

Tipping, except for large groups and such, is not mandatory anywhere but is expected and amounts suggested. We can choose how much we want to tip but most people follow the traditional guidelines.

I pick from the menu, order something and the server brings it.
Ordinary service and no tip is warranted because of performance.

If you are very pleasant, helpful a tip is warranted
But not 20 percent of the bill

I think you missed the point. Or didn't read the argument. But oh well. Have a pleasant day.
