Watch Fans?

This thread made me buy a new watch.

Got an Invicta 23678...a Submariner homage...but with a silicone band so as not to be too pretentious.

Right up my alley...a beautiful watch with a Japanese automatic movement for $68 on sale...

I've actually owned a number of Invictas. Some were actually very nice and built well. Others maybe not so much.

I'm of the opinion that there's not an Invicta on the planet worth more than $200. Invicta is famous for grossly inflating the MSRP on their watches and then offering them for sale at a fraction of the MSRP, thereby giving a buyer a false sense of a good deal. here's an example:

The MSRP on this watch is (I hope you're sitting) $1,139, but it's routinely available for under two bills.

These are a few of the Invictas I've owned:

Under $200, Invictas are fine, so long as you don't think you're getting a fine Swiss timepiece when you buy one...

Check out Patek Phillipe

I don't have a lot of watches. I wore a Submariner for years and really liked it.

My everyday watch is my cell phone these days, when I want to wear a watch it's a Seiko samurai. It's a good runner, but it doesn't have the power reserve of the Submariner. But it's still pretty nice for a low/mid priced watch.

People often ask me how I can justify spending thousands of dollars on a watch.

Well, because it's worth it.

Two years ago I purchased an Omega Seamaster from Bernard Watch in Texas. I paid $2,700 for it. My smokin' hot Puerto Rican girlfriend just shook her head.

Looking around online today, I see the exact same watch for sale at another dealer for $3,950:

Authentic Used OMEGA Seamaster 300M Co-Axial 212.30.41.20.03.001 Watch (10-10-OME-MNSGTV)

Not a bad investment, if you ask me...

So, in my original post there's an error with regard to the Moonswatch.

I said the price was $850. That's simply what I saw it selling for online. When these were introduced they sold out almost immediately, and many hit the online auction sites in a hurry. There are instances of them selling for over two grand in some cases.

That might make sense if it was a one-time thing and they'd never be made again, but they're not. They're going to be in the regular Swatch product line. The price at Swatch?

$260.

I'll be buying three of them...

I’ve probably got 50 watches, but these two are my favorites:

Is that one on the left a Citizen?

I love the simple styling of the Air King, but it's just too small. The older ones are 34mm, and I think the more recent ones are 36mm. I've got a 9-1/2 inch wrist. I put an Air King on and I can barely see it!

Rolex has really climbed in price recently. What sold for $5,000 three years ago can easily go for $10,000 today.

Hold on to what you've got!

Yep, it’s an automatic citizen with a mineral face. Pretty hard to find.

I'd love to get a TAG Heuer like this one. Pre-owned for about $2000. I'm half tempted to buy it, but I just bought a Apple watch series 7 and my job prevents me from wearing something as nice as the TAG Heuer every day.

But still…

I've never been a Tag fan, nor a fan of PVD. I tried to like them, but to each his own, I suppose.

The Oris Airstream came through St. Augustine last Friday, so I went to pay them a visit. There were a few nice pieces, but this is the one which caught my eye, the Big Crown Pilot:

I have massive wrists (9-1/2"0, so the 44mm size is a good fit. I don't like dials that are too busy, so this checks that box, as well.

I'm not necessarily in the market for a new watch, but I'm also not necessarily not in the market for a new watch.

And, at only $2,100, why not?

I’m interested in a Seiko Chronograph Speed timer Bullhead 1976.

Seiko makes a good watch. I was strolling through an antique mall over the weekend and managed to find this aircraft clock.

What's nice is it was made by Breitling. I am boxing it up now to send back to them so they can certify it as airworthy so I can use it in my Bonanza.
