I worked on that VERY block at one of my first jobs - mid 20s - more than 45 years ago. I walked through thst very park on the way to the metro. Reagan was president.
Back then, it was a different world. Democrats were not inciting violence against American soldiers. Everyone I passed on the street was an American, finishing up work, or a tourist, although occasionally there was a homeless guy asking for a dollar.
We were not overtaken by illegals aliens. We did not have violent thugs released repeatedly to attack innocent people. We did not have leftists chanting “Death to Jews!” while defending HAMAS.
Of course, we didn’t have cell phones, or the Internet, or iPads, or big flat-screen TVs.
But all in all, things were much better in 1982. Wish we could go back.
