The question is...where was it headed.
Ships can pass through. Remember when Butt Plugs like Alicia J were screaming about how the strait was closed....period and how Iran was so much in control.
Now, the US is allowing ships through...safely (didn't Iran forget where the mines where and Alicia J said it would take MONTHS to clear it out?) except if they are going to Iran. That is my understanding.

To be clear, Trump campaigned on a promise of no new wars.
I didn't listen to his promises given his propensity to blather.
So, this wasn't on my radar.
But I understand people were upset.
I will forever hate GWB for the so called "war on terror" and it's long range impact on our federal debt.
I don't believe Trump intends to put troops in harms way (and 10 or 20 being killed isn't my idea of a bad situation (unless, of course you are one of or the family of one of the 10 or 20.....at the same time, we kill about 30 people a day in drunk driving....so I do keep a perspective....and there is a reason they call it the armed services).
But, lashing out using propaganda? No.
