Zone1 ‘War’: China’s disturbing move in Antarctica

Epic attempt by the CIA-bot to scare people. If you look at a map, the part of Antarctica that is closest to China is also the part of Antarctica close to Australia. Furthermore, countries that are about the same distance from the Arctic have research stations there too. In fact, I'm pretty sure the US isn't that much closer to the Arctic than China. But hey, geography is dumb and lame. You need to be scared and vote for the next defense spending increase!

Edit: hell, I just looked it up, they've had stations in Antarctica since the 80s lol, and you're out here saying, "WAR."

Thanks for that.

The problem is that they keep trying to panic people about China.

China hasn't waged a war against anyone since 1979 (when they did a punitive invasion of Vietnam in retaliation for Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia)

The fearmongering is indeed nonsensical and has little to no basis in fact, as you point out. It only starts to make sense once you consider it in the context of global geopolitics, and even domestic politics. Convincing people that there's a threat and that they should be scared generates a ton of profit. It acts as a distraction from our own aggression. And it enables the silencing of dissenters. Tik Tok being the most obvious example of the US government using China as an excuse for crackdowns on speech.
