WaPo slams trump's tariffs and his rebate promise, noting that the rebate won't make a dent on the tax Americans are paying (aka tariffs): Link

Trump’s $2K tariff checks are not in the mail

Tariff “dividends” are a foolish promise.

"
The administration keeps trying to have its tariff cake and eat it, too. At the Supreme Court last Wednesday, Solicitor General D. John Sauer said the tariffs are regulations, not taxes, and that the revenue they raise is only incidental. Days later, Trump was back to emphasizing how much revenue the tariffs are generating.

The president can claim all he wants that tariffs are paid by foreign countries and companies. But the receipts make clear that the bulk are paid by U.S. companies. Americans pay taxes on the goods they import, and the sums are significant. The Tax Policy Center calculates that federal revenue from tariffs will bring in $299 billion next year alone, and $2.5 trillion accumulatively between 2026 and 2035. In other words, even if rebates eventually come, they will do little to offset the biggest tax hike on American businesses in modern history."

Trump also said he might put tariffs toward the debt. Then he will spend a trillion dollars of our money grifting us for the next 3 years. Hopefully democrats get the purse strings back next year

They don't think $2k in the new.year won't be welcomed by Americans, especialy when it is coming from tariffs? WaPo sould tell Bezos to start paying his blood taxes and his share of U.S postal costs. The worst corporate, China-First grifters on earth

Republicans loved trumps 2020 stimulus checks but not Biden’s 2021 stimulus checks.

Trumps stimulus checks won’t lead to inflation like Biden’s either right?

Scatter them by last name. 3-4 Periods of checks going out is how I would do it.

It’s funny republicans in America have always wanted government to stay out of economic issues. Today we have a president using his power like we’ve never seen before. Affecting our economy so much he has to send out stimulus bribes to win elections? Seems very socialism ish. Not conservative Republican capitalism.

Just throw it on the debt right?

Corporations bow to trump. Same corporations who don’t pay us enough, Mamdani

Wait a minute. I thought the left liked the idea of “redistributing” the wealthy’s money? It’s major corporations doing the vast majority of this importing after all.

So after years of liberals telling us how minimum wage should be $25, college free, healthcare free, universal basic income, and socialism, but they are opposed to a 2k check becuase it’s from the Orange Man?

I generally oppose all this government spending but as long as billions are being sent to people overseas, billions being given to people who refuse to work here and billions more spent on people who come here illegally, then as a hard working American, I ain’t gonna complain about getting a check myself.

Trumps Tariffs lowered the final deficit number below last years. First time in a while it hasn't gone up up up.

Way to go Donald Trump.

Another Nothingburger thread by one of the two or three board stalkers (ones who can't wait to get a news feed on whether or not Trump got a haircut.

What huge waste of bandwidth the OP is.

No more foolish than the left promising people a bunch of free stuff that everyone knows won't be free however I won't hold my breath waiting for the WaPo editorial board to give us that opinion piece.

You mean like Obamacare and the 2500/year savings?

Talk about a bust.

Sounds like the dividends will need to be an annual thing.
