Walmart workers are sharing photos of price hikes of 38% or more — and some prices are up at Target too

IDK about Home Depot, but the grocery stores here are another story.
It will take time for the trump tariffs to hit shelves. But it will happen. We are now seeing prices of products bought in large quantity just after the fat man announced his nutty tariffs.

Take a breath. Fall will see dramatic inflation numbers.

We? How do you see any prices on your SNAP card jimboliar??
So now your incessant whining is delayed until the Fall???

Trump policies keep bringing prices down

Let's look at that article,

Five of the six major grocery store group indexes dropped, led by a 12.7% decrease in egg prices, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday. The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs declined 1.6% in April after recent increases. Nonalcoholic beverages was the only category that saw an increase, rising 0.7%.

Egg prices are declining as we get away from the Avian flu. New flocks are just beginning to lay and we should continue to see egg prices drop. Meat prices may very well decline although we have seen a strong spike in the price for calves in the last year, now double that of all beef cattle. Probably anticipating a reversal of what has been increasing grain prices as the price has broken the trend line. Even the CBO is predicting lower grain prices when evaluating the current big, beautiful bill.

To manage financial strain, more consumers are using buy now, pay later options for groceries. A recent survey found that 25% of shoppers have used the service to buy groceries—up from 14% a year ago.

That is very disturbing.

Correct, we are recovering from the mishandling of the bird flu by the prior admin

Why is that disturbing? It's a trend that is very popular with Gen Z, and been gaining steam for years now Buy now, pay later on the rise for grocery shoppers

It’s a trend that has been gaining steam over the last couple of years. Back in 2023, data from Adobe Analytics revealed grocery’s share of buy now, pay later online orders jumped to 40% year over year in the first two months of the year.

Last month, DoorDash announced it would allow U.S. customers to use buy now, pay later services, giving them the option to pay in four interest-free installments or defer payment to a future date.

In 2024, Sezzle partnered with Vallarta Supermarkets to offer shoppers the ability to pay in four interest-free installments over six weeks. Sezzle cited Adobe data showing a 40% year-over-year increase in buy now, pay later grocery purchases.

I haven't seen much increase in grocery prices this year, in fact some items I buy routinely have gone down. But I don't tend to buy very much that's imported.

Please, mishandling by the Biden administration. Tell me hoss, specifically what was the problem and how would a Trump administration have handled it differently? I won't be holding my breath.

But yes, buying now and paying later, when it comes to groceries, is little more than the same trap as a payday lender.

I was raised in the grocery business. My father was a high level executive for a major food chain, worked his way up from bagboy, and it was the only company he ever worked for his entire life. It was my first job as well, and I worked it while in college and afterwards. Eventually I left for finance, but returned once I had my chidren raised. Now I am a category manager for the largest food wholesaler in the country. You can guess the category.

Over 30 years ago I was running a meat department. I had a regular customer. He would come in, buy many of my specials, and have me pack them up in smaller packages. He then took those packages into the hood, sold them to people, at a healthy profit margin, allowing them to buy now, pay later, usually the next week. The next week, well they had to pay him for last week, leaving them with no money to buy food this week, so they did again and again, trapped in a cycle of continuing debt.

What is popular with Gen Z, paying for everything with credit cards, and then paying them off each month. This buy now pay later option is not that. It is more like my enterprising customer.

I don't buy alot of imported goods either.......and I think the price issue is more local to Western WA, not sure of the eastside,

Where do you find this American product?

It would be cool if there was some kind of Department store that simply carried, American Product...The American Product Store! 😁
Knock yourself out

What was the problem??? Birds were getting sick and egg prices skyrocketed

Trump fixed it by implementing better bio security and then brought up imports to bring the cost down while our inventory recouped

You are so gullible. Better biosecurity?

Specifically, the USDA will be expanding a Biden-era pilot program called Wildlife Biosecurity Assessments, which involves sending agency staff to chicken farms to identify any ways in which wild birds might be infiltrating the facilities. This program was initially rolled out in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, and as of October 2024, had been carried out on 169 farms, according to the USDA.

Expanding a Biden era program. But there is a problem.

Trump administration cuts FDA staff handling bird flu outbreaks

Then there is this,

The second “prong” of the USDA’s new bird flu strategy is essentially an expansion of the Biden administration’s indemnity program for poultry producers, whereby poultry producers are paid to kill off entire flocks if and when a case of avian flu is detected.

Wow, I mean just wow. On the campaign trail Trump complained about that program. Now, he wants to expand it.

But finally, this one.

The USDA is also pledging to invest “up to $100 million” toward the development of “vaccines, therapeutics, and other innovative solutions,” and will hold biweekly discussions on this topic.

Whoops.

U.S. Cancels Contract With Moderna to Develop Bird Flu Vaccine

I mean all this is a clear example of what a damn clown show the Trump administration is. Departments don't know what other departments are doing. Trump wants to expand inspections, your biosecurity claim. But then DOGE comes along, fires the inspectors, and then suddenly realizes, oh hell, we need to hire them back. Trump promises work on a vaccine but then Robert Kennedy nixes it. It is a flippin circus. Trump has no leadership ability whatsoever and we are going to be paying the price.

I mean Trump is a conman, period. His administration is a joke. And yes, he is no businessman. I mean the first rule of business, under promise and over deliver. Trump consistently over promises and under delivers. Rather it is his business ventures or his official actions. I mean I got a new theme song, should be played before every Trump rally.

The theme song of a confidence man.

Yes better, not every inspector was fire

The contract that was canceled was for people, not birds

You are clueless

Of course the vaccine was for people, that was the whole intent. In fact, the one hundred million was specifically canceled. I mean damn hoss, you are walking into my wheelhouse. This is what the fuck I do. Admittedly, I have been on leave for six weeks. Come Wednesday I will back in tune.

Want to know how to handle avian flu, come to North Carolina. Certified as bird Flu free and one of the top producers of eggs in the country. Can you name another state granted that same distinction? And note, we did it without a single FDA inspector. We did it at the state level.

Forty years ago, I knew the FDA inspector. He showed up every few months or so. Same for the OSHA inspector. Today, category manager, believe me, if one of our customers got a FDA or OSHA inspection, I would know about it. Hundreds of stores, I haven't seen one in more than ten years.

You are the one that is clueless. You have the attention span of a goldfish and Trump knows it. I mean just look at DOGE, oh, we are going to shave two trillion dollars off the budget. Looks like it is not going to even hit 150 billion. And that is not even considering the cost of all those punkass little twerps he hired.

TACO, Trump always chickens out. Is that your idea of a leader? Kristi Noem can't even define Habeas Corpus? WTF, how did we get here. The incompetence of the Trump administration is beyond the pale. The inmates have taken over the asylum.

This is a shit show.

Well people don’t lay eggs. Chickens do.

There is no bird flu pandemic in people. A giant waste of time money

So uninformed.

A highly pathogenic subtype of H5N1 was first detected in birds in China in 1996, and the first human cases appeared soon afterwards. The virus diversified as it replicated in birds, and migratory bird species spread multiple subtypes around the planet. Avian influenza came to North America in 2014 and caused a severe outbreak in U.S. poultry, but the outbreak was controlled, and luckily the virus disappeared. Up until 2024, there have been almost 1,000 documented human cases of H5N1 in multiple countries, with a fatality rate of about 50 percent.
