Virginia 6-year-old who shot teacher won't face charges, prosecutor says

It's important to teach children that there will never ever, ever be consequences for their actions. /sarcasm

"the family of the 6-year-old boy said in a statement that the weapon was "secured" in the home and that they have "always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children."
Their definition of "secured" must be different from mine.

If a six year old got to a weapon it wasn't secured

No, the child shouldn't be formally punished by the law, but the law must contain a mechanism to charge and punish those responsible for the child's behaviour.

But Americans in great numbers will reject punishment of the guilty party and that soon leads to anarchy.

Most people in other coutries would say that the gun situation in America has already resulted in gun related anarchy!

Suffice to say that the next child who shoots his teacher (or other) will be able to claim free license to do so, with no logical consequences.

Oh BS, whoever allowed that child access to a firearm is responsible

A gun that's locked up in a safe is of no use to the homeowner as protection.

On a positive note, the homeowner will be more likely to live through the experience if his guns are secured away from his children.

Yep, the parents should be charged.
Well that's counter productive! No more will homeowners have immediate access to their guns when the guns are needed the most!

Alternatively, the number of homeowners with guns who die in the burglaries will drop significantly!

Go away. If someone fired a gun you'd wet yourself

The obvious answer to the problem is for parents to keep their guns locked in a safe.

That will then require the homeowner to become proficient at getting the guns out of the safe in less time than it takes the bad guy to pull the trigger!

Or just allow the bad guy to have the big screen t.v., stuff, so the homeowner and his family can live to tell the story.

Ours are in a bed side table at night. Our children know better.

Now go away, Canadian kook

At 6 years old, parents should always be held liable for the actions of their child's destructive activities. It is their fault and responsibility.

Just be sure the children know where they all are, in case of an emergency if a bad guy tries to take any of their stuff. No impediment to the child's ability can be allowed when the bad guy already has his gun loaded and cocked in his hand.

You let me worry about our children. How's that, pee winkle?

It's not a simple question with a simple answer, as this shooting might be. I've invented a possible scenario for Sassy lass above.

And not suggesting we know all the details on this shooting. It only seems obvious.

Of course!
I obviously am free of any responsibility for the safe storage of your guns, you have chosen.

The pro-gun side can't stifle all discussion that doesn't suit their agenda. We need to keep it polite and on topic.

A legitimate question to ask:

Would some crimes of this sort by children be be so obviously the fault of the parent(s) so as to cause the law to bring charges of murder against the parent(s)?

All shootings of this sort by children, will call for various different conclusions.
